Zoo Pharma Dynamics Partners with Pivotal Feeds to Enhance Animal Health with Innovative Forage Solutions
SAN ANTONIO, TX — February 26, 2025 –
Zoo Pharma Dynamics (ZPD) is entering a strategic partnership with Pivotal Feeds, based in Dell City, Texas. This collaboration aims to combine ZPD's groundbreaking additive technology with Pivotal Feeds' flagship product, Chaffhaye, to significantly improve animal health across multiple species.
Chaffhaye, a high-quality forage marketed by Pivotal Feeds, has been recognized as an optimal feed for a variety of animal species, including corvids, equines, goats, camelids, and chickens. Brian Kanke, president of Zoo Pharma Dynamics, has been advocating for Chaffhaye for over 20 years, stating, “There is no better forage for an animal.”
Educational support is a cornerstone of Pivotal Feeds' mission, as they strive to ensure that customers maximize the benefits of Chaffhaye. This partnership will further advance the educational resources available to enhance understanding of the product's unique advantages.
ZPD has developed the Cervid Prion Preventative (CPP) as part of its ongoing efforts to combat Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD). Currently undergoing field trials in preparation for the FDA/CVM drug approval process, CPP has shown efficacy when incorporated into various formats, including pellets, protein blocks, and water-soluble supplements. By integrating CPP with Chaffhaye, ZPD believes they can enhance its effectiveness and provide significant health benefits to the animals consuming it.
At ZPD’s South Texas Research Facility, the team has been successfully mixing CPP with Chaffhaye for field trial purposes. Preliminary data indicates promising results regarding formulation compatibility and safety. Notably, there's been an increase in Chaffhaye consumption among cervids when the additive is included.
Danny Heredia, president of Pivotal Feeds, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration: “We are thrilled to join forces with ZPD in this exciting initiative. By merging our expertise, we aim to provide deer farmers with innovative solutions that enhance animal health and productivity.”
The partnership will see the first production of Chaffhaye with the CPP additive in late April to early May 2025, coinciding with the first harvest of the growing season. ZPD and Pivotal Feeds will work closely with the North American Deer Farmer Association (NADeFA) to identify participating deer farms for field trials and share findings with the membership community.
“This collaboration not only underscores our commitment to the health of the animals we serve but also to the education of those in the farming community,” added Kanke. “Together, we aim to deliver the best possible outcomes and advance knowledge within the sector.”
As a leader in pharmacognosy research and development, Zoo Pharma Dynamics is dedicated to keeping animals healthy through innovative research and the development of animal healthcare products. Zoo Pharma Dynamics to Engage North American Deer Farmers Association in EHD Prevention Trials
SAN ANTONIO, TX - February 11, 2025 – Zoo Pharma Dynamics (ZPD) will initiate its third round of field trials focused on the prevention of Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease (EHD) in collaboration with the North American Deer Farmers Association (NADeFA).
The trials, slated to begin in May 2025 and run through August 2025, will involve ZPD selecting five deer farms, as identified by NADeFA, to participate in this significant research effort.
ZPD will administer a top-dress pellet supplement designed to repel the midge fly, the primary vector of EHD. It is important to note that this supplement acts as a repellent rather than a cure. The inclusion of NADeFA in these trials provides valuable opportunities for its members to actively engage in research and share collected data within the association.
There is no financial obligation for either NADeFA or the participating deer farms involved in the trials. ZPD is dedicated to building comprehensive data sets essential for its FDA/CVM approval process.
"We are excited to partner with NADEFA for these crucial field trials," said Brian Kanke, president of ZPD. "This collaboration not only empowers deer farmers with firsthand experience in EHD prevention but also contributes to our understanding of how to combat the disease that poses a significant threat to deer populations."

ZPD Launches Pioneering Field Trial to Combat Johne’s Disease in Livestock
SAN ANTONIO, TX - February 6, 2025 – Zoo Pharma Dynamics (ZPD) has launched a field study in Oklahoma to evaluate the delivery of an innovative oral treatment for Johne’s Disease. In conjunction with its industry partners, ZPD seeks to analyze the data gathered during this trial to determine the effectiveness of the treatment and to enhance its formulations. This collaborative effort aims to develop a future tool that could protect wildlife, livestock, and the public from the impacts of this disease.
Johne's Disease, also referred to as paratuberculosis, is a chronic bacterial infection that primarily affects the intestines of ruminant animals including cattle, sheep, goats, camelids, and cervids. The disease is caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis, which is shed in the feces of infected animals and can contaminate the environment, feed, and water. Infection can occur through contact with these contaminated materials.
With a long incubation period that can extend for years, symptoms of Johne’s Disease include severe diarrhea, emaciation, and fever, which often leads to dehydration and further health complications.
“Utilizing insights gained from our previous research and development efforts with other diseases, we are optimistic that we have identified a promising treatment pathway for Johne’s Disease,” said Brian Kanke, president of Zoo Pharma Dynamics. “By combining specific active ingredients from our prior formulations, we are working towards a solution that effectively targets the disease while maintaining the health of the animal. The initial results are encouraging, and we look forward to sharing our findings with the scientific community.”
During the field trial, ZPD will follow established protocols for the collection of initial data through blood, tissue, and fecal samples, assessing any further sampling needs as the study progresses. A thorough evaluation of this initial trial will be conducted prior to proceeding with any subsequent trials, ensuring that all data aligns with scientific standards.

Zoo Pharma Dynamics Takes Major Leaps in Battle Against Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease (EHD)
SAN ANTONIO, TX - January 10, 2025 – Zoo Pharma Dynamics is proud to announce significant advancements in the fight against Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease (EHD), one of the deadliest viruses affecting deer populations. Our research and development efforts, bolstered by strategic collaborations, are critical to the success of our innovative formulation and application processes.
Central to our approach is the introduction of the post-pellet liquid application (PPLA) system. This specialized spray technology ensures an even distribution of our liquid additive on the pellets, which enhances the availability and efficacy of the treatment. The PPLA method effectively eliminates any risk of heat sensitivity during the pelleting process, preserving the integrity of the additive throughout.
"We are committed to finding solutions that protect wildlife and the ecosystems they inhabit,” said Brian Kanke, President of Zoo Pharma Dynamics. “Collaborating with our strategic partners and advancing our research is crucial not only for the success of our current formulation but also for the future of deer health management.”
Ongoing field trials are currently taking place at our research center and lab, with plans for additional trials set for this spring. As warmer weather returns and midge flies, along with other insects, become more prevalent, these trials will facilitate the testing of cervid fluids and hair follicle samples for the new additive.
Zoo Pharma Dynamics invites interested parties to participate in our upcoming field trials. To get involved and for more information, please visit our website at www.zoopharmadynamics.com and fill out the field trial application.

Zoo Pharma Dynamics Partners with Element to Combat EHD in Cervids with Innovative Feed Additive
SAN ANTONIO, TX - November 4, 2024 – Zoo Pharma Dynamics (ZPD) is excited to announce a groundbreaking partnership with Element to advance field trials of a revolutionary feed additive designed to repel the midge fly, a primary vector of Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease (EHD) in Cervids. After six years of dedicated research and development, ZPD's mid-stage trials have yielded promising results, paving the way for significant advancements in the fight against this deadly disease.
EHD has emerged as the leading cause of mortality in Cervids, with fatalities surpassing those caused by any other disease. The innovative feed additive not only provides a safeguard against midge fly infestation but also shows efficacy in repelling various other insects, including barn flies, ants, house flies, and ticks. Notably, the additive is palatable and has demonstrated no adverse effects on Cervid health.
"Our commitment to understanding and combating EHD has never wavered," said Brian Kanke, President of Zoo Pharma Dynamics. "The partnership with Element represents a significant step forward in our mission. Our research has uncovered an additive that not only protects Cervids from the midge fly but is also safe and beneficial for their health. This could be a game-changer for Cervid populations facing the dire consequences of EHD."
Furthermore, ZPD is examining how the substance is secreted through the animal’s digestive process, with positive indications of its presence in hair, sweat, saliva, nasal fluids, urine, and manure. This suggests that the feed additive may have even greater potential as a long-lasting repellent.
As part of our collaborative efforts with Element, we are committed to refining this formulation to maximize its effectiveness against EHD, thereby ensuring a sustainable solution for the health and survival of Cervid populations.

The field trial program, a crucial step in evaluating the efficacy of ZPD’s novel preventive approach, will commence on an additional three ranches that are heavily impacted by CWD. This program will involve close collaboration with local wildlife authorities, veterinary experts, and stakeholders to ensure comprehensive data collection and analysis. Zoo Pharma Dynamics Takes on the Fight Against Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) to Preserve Hunting Heritage and Deer Breeding Industry
SAN ANTONIO, TX - September 8, 2023 – Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) continues to affect multiple states with varying severity levels, and the implementation of stricter state-mandated measures. In an effort to address this growing concern, Zoo Pharma Dynamics (ZPD) is actively leading the charge in finding a solution.
Back in November 2021, ZPD initiated an interaction with the Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Veterinary Medicine (FDA/CVM) by opening an Investigational New Animal Drug (INAD) file, with an indication to prevent and cure Chronic Wasting Disease.
In July 2023, Brian Kanke, the President of Zoo Pharma Dynamics, had a highly successful face-to-face meeting with the FDA/CVM at their office in Maryland. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss Zoo Pharma's intention to Achieve Conditional Approval, also known as CNADA, in order to expedite the availability of their product.
Various team leaders within the CVM team showed interest in the product offered by Zoo Pharma Dynamics. One of the options that were discussed involved the potential facilitation of a meeting between ZPD and state agencies to explain that having an INAD file and meeting certain requirements allows for ZPD to use the drug in investigations while under review.
"The journey has been both arduous and tremendously fulfilling, and I am thrilled at the prospect of engaging with state agencies to evaluate our field trial process," expressed Kanke.
Founded in 2009 and officially incorporated in 2019, ZPD has made significant strides in its research and development efforts each year. Thanks to their self-funding; ZPD has actively explored every viable path available in their ongoing research.
"As a dedicated deer breeder in South Texas, alongside our partners, we have experienced the consequences facing our industry. However, we have chosen a different approach – investing in finding a solution. We encourage all stakeholders to join us for the right reasons and reach out to us for collaboration," said Kanke.
Their commitment to finding a solution was further reinforced when Kanke witnessed the destructive impact of CWD firsthand.
"One of our ZPD partners, involved in a separate partnership, endured the loss of a multimillion-dollar deer operation. However, ZPD intervened, bringing an end to the madness and delivering closure to this terrible event," said Kanke.
Kanke emphasized the importance of avoiding the tendency to attribute the spread of Chronic Wasting Disease to a single cause. He believes that assigning blame without considering all the factors involved is counterproductive.
"Testing for this disease is a relatively recent development, and certain specific groups have been at the forefront in carrying out tests because of the straightforwardness of the process," stated Kanke. "Being at the forefront of testing does not imply any responsibility for the origin or spread of the disease. Making such claims would be scientifically unethical."
Kanke argued that we should prevent politics from adversely affecting an industry that is highly valued by many and has been passed down through generations as a cherished hunting tradition.
Zoo Pharma Dynamics is dedicated to bringing hope and preserving the industry for the countless individuals who enjoy it. We encourage interested parties to reach out, as ZPD remain available to discuss and address this critical situation. For media inquiries or more information, please contact Brian Kanke at (830) 444-2030 or email brian@zoopharmadynamics.com or visit www.zoopharmadynamics.com.

Major Milestone: Zoo Pharma Dynamics Successfully Fights CWD
SAN ANTONIO, TX - Sept 29, 2022 — Zoo Pharma Dynamics (ZPD) has 4 products to help fight the prion disease that causes Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD). We have been doing field trials for over 8 years. After the winter storm in Texas in 2021 there was increase of whitetail deer postmortem CWD samples being sent to Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory (TVMDL) in early spring and some large breeding operations had CWD positives in their herds. This caused hundreds of ranches and facilities to go under quarantine for further testing.
Zoo Pharma Dynamics set up a field trial on a whitetail deer breeding facility with known positives in the herd. We assessed the situation and examined the timeframe we would have to conduct the field trial. We were limited on the number of days we would be able to conduct the field trial due to regulations and instructions being given regarding the white tail deer in the facility. We reformulated one of our products with some minor modifications to increase its strength and reaction time to attack the prion disease. The field trial lasted approximately 3 weeks. The white tail deer in the facility were all treated with PWP which contains CPP. The whitetail deer were all sent to TVMDL for postmortem testing for CWD. All deer in the field trial tested negative for CWD.

Natural Extracts Key To Zoo Pharma Dynamics Formula
SAN ANTONIO, TX - April 22, 2021 — Zoo Pharma Dynamics fight against Prion Disease that causes Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) incorporates natural extracts into its formulation. The active ingredients used in our research and field trial testing program is "CPP" and is formulated with the extracts of three lichens which can produce lichen protease in the gastrointestinal tract of a Cervid.
This process creates a higher acidic level which increases the PH levels which can have the ability to push prions out of the danger zone. CPP has added a formulation of Copper to help prevent the Prion protein to take up manganese and unfold, while keeping sulfur at a minimum level. ZPD is continuing to develop and test these formulations and more testing is needed. ZPD is actively seeking more participants for the Field Trials.
